employee morale

High Employee Morale – a necessity for a successful business

Woah!! It’s August already!??!!

We’ve all been working from home for 4 months now…missing the chai breaks with colleagues, fighting over who gets to sit on the bean bag in the meeting room, weekly potluck on the terrace, movie night!!! The only thing we’re all not missing is the Bangalore Traffic!! 😛

Employees are the greatest asset of any organisation. We are all aware how the current situation has brought down the morale of employees. This in turn can lead to a domino effect bringing down creativity, teamwork, productivity, etc.

Human Resource professionals all over the world are taking initiatives to ensure that the effect of the pandemic on employee morale is minimum.

In an industry where campaign ideas and creative strategies were cracked over a long brainstorming session in the conference room or during a quick sutta break, ensuring that employees don’t feel isolated is of utmost importance.

Conducting regular team meetings and video conferencing has helped employees feel connected and increased morale. This becomes especially important when we have onboarded new employees while working from home! This kind of routine can also give a sense of normalcy which can be comforting.

We start the meeting with everyday work updates and end the call wondering if Sima Auntie will be back with Season 2 of Indian Matchmaking. Something like your usual gossip near the water cooler! (Wink! Wink!)

“People work for money but go the extra mile for Recognition, Praise, and Rewards.” – Dale Carnegie

We need to understand that during these tough times our employees are putting in extra efforts to ensure that our clients are happy and satisfied. As an organization, we have to recognize and appreciate these efforts.

Appreciation need not always be monetary, genuine praise and personalised gestures go a long way too. It may not be the same as your regular pizza parties at office but getting your employee’s favourite dessert delivered to their door step may do the trick!

Recognition could be acknowledging the excellent work done by an employee during a team meeting or it could come from a colleague appreciating the support provided to solve a work issue.

Captain Clevertize- our monthly Employee Reward system, ensures that employees are recognised and appreciated not only by their managers but also their peers.

We’ve all heard that ‘teamwork makes the dream work’. Teamwork is highly critical to the organisation’s success. The feeling of working together as a team is very important for morale.

We know that families that play together stay together! Since we can’t conduct the usual activities and games like in office, we’re finding new interactive ways to get to know each other better.

Surprising Saturdays- our weekly team activity, where we’ve played virtual games like- GIF Wars, bringing out the creative thinking in us or Two Truths and a Lie, when we realized that the shy introverted person in the team is not so shy after all; these kinds of activities helps us get to know each other better.

Activities like ‘Can You Hear Me Now?’, ‘Pictionary’, and ‘Ad Quiz’, helped us improve our listening and team co-ordination skills and also tested some of our drawing skills!! 😀

Focus on the quality of internal communication will lead to successfully working as a team.

Improving or maintaining high employee morale can be difficult during these challenging times, but it’s possible to achieve with open communication with your employees. Understanding and implementing what the employees actually need will boost their morale.

As said by Doug Conant, CEO of Cambell’s Soup, “To win in the marketplace you must first win in the workplace.”; adapting to these changes and implementing new methods and techniques, in the long run will prove to be helpful in an organisation’s success!
